Focus in the EU
Our office in Brussels
Work at EU level has high priority for waste denmark, which is illustrated by waste denmark’s permanent representation in Brussels. This presence gives the opportunity to establish a close and continuous relation to other European stakeholders within the waste and energy sector, and especially within the EU Commission. waste denmark observes the trends and comments on the future framework for waste treatment in the EU and consequently in Denmark. As a side effect the involvement in Brussels also provides knowledge about the waste sector in other countries.
The thematic strategy and the waste framework directive
Since 2005 waste denmark has worked intensively on the new waste framework directive. The directive has now been adopted and in the future we will follow and influence the Danish implementation. The new waste framework directive introduces regulation of end-of-waste. waste denmark is engaged in work on those criteria which will define the end-of-waste status as well as the consequences.
IPPC Directive
The most important activity at EU level at the moment is related to the EU Commission’s proposal for a new IPPC Directive. This Directive may be conceived as a European approval scheme for industrial facilities, and with the Commission’s proposal the number of waste treatment plants covered will be considerably higher than today.
