Focus in Denmark
Organization of the waste management sector
The political agreement on the organization of the waste sector is to be transposed into law. We have influenced the political negotiations and subsequently given technical input to the Danish EPA through submission of memos, organization of study tours, and participation in meetings. Furthermore, we continuously seek to coordinate interests with other relevant organizations.
waste denmark, among other issues, works on new regulation of recyclable industrial waste, covering for example the distinction between recycling and separation plants, the new model for waste data (statistics), access to recycling centres (civic amenity sites) for businesses, accounting for incineration plants and landfills, and benchmarking among these plants.
We also work on future framework conditions for the incineration sector when commercial waste for incineration is to be subject to marked-based conditions.
Other legislation
waste denmark also works on:
- The implementation of the new battery directive
- The implementation of EU’s acceptance criteria for landfills
- The amendment of the WEEE Statutory Order
- Input for the amendment of the Statutory Order on recycling, which among others sets up the rules for recycling of slag from waste incineration
- The waste tax
Other issues
waste denmark has initiated a number of projects analyzing capacity, environmental issues, and socio-economic aspects relating to different waste treatment options such as incineration, co-incineration and anaerobic digestion. They are only available in Danish.
